LumaBooth for Windows (dslrBooth) Reviews

I chose this program after reviewing several others for two reasons, in order of importance: (1) The program just works. Setup is simple, printing is a non-issue, and customization is easy. (2) Cost - $150 for the pro version, a great deal. The template editor is good, but missing a few things when dealing with graphics - like functions to Align items (this is really huge). Also, the send to back/bring to front functionality is there, but a bit clunky. Can not comment on the green screen functionality as I haven't tried it and likely will not. Features I'd like to see: An audible countdown announcement or "bleep" as the seconds count down toward taking the picture. Also, it'd be kinda cool to be able to choose a template prior to starting your photo session from a pre-defined list of templates. Using the free PhotoLive software allows one to display photos as they are taken on a seconday monitor for others/your crowd to see, and does it well -- but it really needs to be built into the software. The software's slide show function wants to access the internet, which in many venues without free wifi, is worthless. The software's slide show functionality is a definite weak point. However, I'll give you that these are somewhat picky complaints, the software is fully functional and you won't go wrong with it.

Anywhere else you would pay twice as much for the features in this software. I would like to see support for Instagram and Slow-mo video.

The program met most of my expectations. I used it for my wife's baby shower and everyone was impressed. We did run into a few hiccups with the program crashing but a restart worked around it. However, we did lose some final prints because of the crash. The originals were saved but it would have been nice to have the ability to import the originals and continue the session. I would have purchased the Pro version for Mac if it was available.

The program is easy to use. The only issue is that there is no backgrounds included in the software. For the price it would have been nice to have a background specialty made for promotion at least 5. Incorporating special events. (i.e. one for wedding, birthday, holidays) | |Jose (SJ Photography)

Love this photo booth app!! It is versatile and very easy to use. I would have given it 5 stars but like all the other reviews, my camera doesn't show the live view. I even specifically bough a camera from their approved list and it still does not work.

This software is easy to use and packed with lots of feature. However, something that it is missing is the ability for people in front of the camera to see themselves before taking the picture. Other than that, the software is awesome.

I was looking for an inexpensive way to get a photo booth set up for a small party. I am not a professional and didn't want to spend the 600-700 dollars for rental. This works great, even with my older model Nikon. Love the templates. Make sure you read the specs before buying. Live preview is not functional with my camera, but I was fine with that.

This is by far the easiest software. We have 7 people using it and you dont have to be a genius to use it. Wish dslr would provide us with more premade wedding templates to purchase.

Works well. The settings are simple though not super intuitive. It took a couple of tries to get the timing right. I had to wait several seconds between shots to get them to register. Otherwise it is the best I've tried so far.

Program works well and easy to add templates constructed thru photoshop. Would really love a Professional edition for MAc platforms though, my business would perform so much better with more functionality.

Friendly to use but dslrStandard doesn't have the paper size, slightly sad for that.

dslrBooth has almost all of the UI features we need but really needs to utilise the DSLRs live view with the countdown laid on top to give the users feedback on their position when using the photo Booth. | |We initially wanted to make a DIY photo booth for our wedding using a DSLR, MacBook Pro and iPad. We didn't want to use a printer we just wanted a share option so it could be posted to the internet straight away. Most importantly, we wanted our guests to have a UI that would tell them what is going on but without having access to the computer running the full program. |We searched the internet for a program that would do it all and although dslrBooth doesn't do everything we found a way with using one more program. | |We connected a DSLR to our MacBook Pro via USB, ran dslrBooth, then mirrored the MacBook screen on an iPad using a surprisingly good app called Air Display Host - You'll need this running on both the MacBook and iPad. | |Using this set up our guest could touch the iPad to start the session, see the count downs, view their completed photo set and then share to email, FaceBook and Twitter. | |The reason Air Display Host is 'surprisingly good' is that we expected this to only mirror the MacBook screen. We intended to add a separate start button and possibly a keyboard but, upon using it for the first time, realised that the touch screen on the iPad allowed us to interact with the MacBook to start the session and then add emails etc. when sharing at the end of the session. | |We packaged all three devices in a custom box that had the MacBook safely locked inside with DSLR and iPad poking through perfectly sized holes on the front face. Additional equipment needed was an AC adapter for the DSLR so that it would be on for the duration of the wedding and some 'always on' lighting umbrellas. We also needed access to the internet but as this was all running on a MacBook we could use wifi, a 4G dongle or even create a network using a spare smartphone. | |dslrBooth has some good editing functions to get the look you need for the background colour and photo layout and also has a good array of on/off options that make your set up as you need it. Disabling the printer function is one example. It also saves all the photos to the MacBook Pro so you can view and share when the wedding is over. | |Over all we very happy with the end result.

Con: I bought a camera that was listed in the support and it end up not doing live view. Do your research on your camera first if you intend to use for live video.

I really enjoyed using the program for a wedding. I was impressed with how easy it was to edit/customize the templates, the setup directions were very clear and easy to follow. I would give it 5 stars if the program would automatically reconnect (more quickly) after camera has set idle and shut down to preserve the battery.

I am super pleased with my purchase. I just finished a month of Santa brunch photos taking, bordering and printing over 300 photos without an issue. DSLRBooth is a great tool for photographers looking to print on site.

Graphic interface is very good! Just some problem concerning camera configuration.

I recently launched my photo booth business and used the Standard DSLRBooth version for a sweet 16 party. The people loved it. I simply selected a template. Put in my own background and text and set the printer to print automatically and sat back and watched the party have the time of their lives. | |NOTE: this is the best photo booth software for Nikon. All others are canon based and don't often recognize Nikon.
