LumaBooth vs Snappic

Both are run by professional operators every weekend. The differences that actually change your night are how prints reach the printer, how many devices one plan covers, and how AI gets billed.

Per-event pricing is worth doing the math on

LumaBooth is $19.99 for a month with no commitment, and that month runs unlimited events on two devices. Snappic's per-event billing starts at $29 per event. So a single event already costs less on LumaBooth, and a busy month is not close. Per-event billing sounds like the cheap way in. Run your actual calendar through it before you assume it is.

One LumaBooth subscription covers iPad, iPhone, Mac and Android together, and your two devices can be any mix of them. Windows is billed separately.

Snappic gates features by tier. AI-FX, green screen, VideoFX, surveys and analytics start at Business. White label, webhooks and event codes start at Premium. Microsites and green screen are $19 per event each on Starter. LumaBooth puts its full feature set on every plan, so the price you see is the price you keep paying.

Snappic added Direct USB Printing, and it is the real thing. Their own documentation says the iPad sends the job to the printer "with no other device in between", on an M-series or newer A-class iPad running iPadOS 16 or later. If you read an older comparison claiming Snappic needs a print server, that is out of date, including an earlier draft of this page. Their Print Server and AirPrint remain as alternatives.

So this is no longer a question of whether, it is a question of what is on the end of the cable. LumaBooth drives 16 printers across DNP, Citizen, HiTi and SwiftFoto. Snappic drives 9, across DNP and Citizen.

Three practical differences. HiTi is the big one: Snappic lists no HiTi printers at all, so a P525L or P520L cannot print directly from Snappic. Mac is the second: our direct printing works from a Mac as well as an iPad, theirs is iPad only. And on DNP we cover four bodies they do not, including the DS620 and the DS-RX1HS, which are two of the most common printers in the field.

On standard sizes the two are close, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise. Snappic publishes its list and it reaches 8x12 on an 8-inch printer, 6x9 on a 6-inch, with 2-up 4x6 and a 2-inch strip cut, which is most of what we offer.

Panoramas are the exception. Load a 6x8 ribbon in a DS620 and LumaBooth will also print a 6x14 or a 6x20 jumbo strip off that same roll. Load 8x12 in a DS820 and it will run an 8x22 or 8x32 in one continuous pass. None of those appear anywhere in Snappic's published sizes. If you sell a panoramic print, that is the whole difference.

Sony video is a Windows question

Snappic's help center says plainly that the app "only supports capturing photos with Sony cameras", because Sony does not permit tethered video capture on iOS. That limit applies to every iPad app, ours included: LumaBooth for Apple cannot record video or boomerangs from a Sony either.

The difference is that we have somewhere the limit does not apply. LumaBooth for Windows records video on Sony, on any tethered body. Snappic runs on iPad, iPhone and Mac only, so there is no version of Snappic that can do it. If you shoot Sony and sell video, that is the whole decision.

If you run Windows booths, or want Android tablets in the field, LumaBooth is the only one of the two that covers them. Apple and Android sit on the same subscription, so an iPad in the booth and an Android tablet on the sharing table is one plan.

A 200-guest wedding, one AI portrait each

On LumaBooth that is $20, on any plan. On Snappic the same event needs the $189 Business tier at minimum before you generate a single image.

Background replacement is the sharper difference. LumaBooth removes and replaces backgrounds on the device, with no green screen and no internet, which is the feature that matters at a barn wedding where the network is a rumor. Snappic's background removal runs in the cloud and consumes credits, so no signal means no backdrops. On Snappic Starter, green screen itself is a $19 per-event add-on.

Sharing, Galleries and Business Tools

Both include unlimited texts to US and Canada numbers, Snappic under a fair-use policy. LumaBooth also includes international texting, which matters on destination weddings and corporate events with overseas guests. See our pricing page for the current international allowance.

LumaBooth shares by email, SMS, AirDrop, QR, WhatsApp and Instagram, and works offline so guests still get their photos when the network drops. Every event gets a gallery with no LumaBooth branding on it. Your own logo and subdomain come with fotoShare Business. Snappic microsites are $19 per event on Starter and included from Business.

White labeling splits into three things and we are only clean on one of them. No LumaBooth branding appears on a gallery on any plan, so a guest never sees our name. Putting your brand on it, meaning your logo on every event page and your own subdomain at yourcompany.fotoshare.co, needs fotoShare Business at $39.99 a month on top of your booth subscription. On Snappic the equivalent is Premium, or a $79 add-on at Business, so neither of us gives it away.

Emails sit in between. You set your own From address, your own Reply-To, and your own subject and body, so a guest sees your business in their inbox and replies land with you. What you cannot change is the domain the mail is actually sent from, which is fotoshare.co. Snappic’s white-label emails go further than that.

Where they clearly do something we cannot is the grey-label app: the software itself carrying an agency’s brand. If you resell booths under your own name and the app needs to look like yours, that is Snappic Premium and we have no answer to it.

Who Should Choose Which

Choose LumaBooth if you

  • Print on a HiTi, or on a DNP DS620, DS-RX1HS, DS820 or DS820DX, none of which Snappic drives directly
  • Sell panoramic strips, 5x7s or squares off the same ribbon
  • Run more than one device
  • Own Windows booths, or want Android tablets in the field
  • Want iPad, iPhone, Mac and Android on one subscription
  • Want unlimited events and every feature for one annual price

Choose Snappic if you

  • Run brand activations where VideoFX is the product you are selling
  • Build VideoFX experiences for brand activations
  • Need a grey-label app, or email sent from your own domain rather than just your own From address

Switching from Snappic, Honestly

The price is never what stops people. Losing a weekend to rebuilding templates is.

What carries over untouched:

  • Your iPad and iPhone
  • Your DSLR
  • Your printer
  • Your booth shell
  • Your lighting and props

What you actually have to redo: your print layouts. There is no import path between photo booth apps, not between any two of them, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Your designs have to be rebuilt in our layout designer.

  1. Start on the free trial. It is unlimited and only watermarks photos, so you can rebuild and rehearse a full event without paying anything or cancelling your Snappic subscription.
  2. Rebuild your two or three most-used layouts first. Most operators run a handful of designs over and over. Do those, not the whole library. Or start from one of our 820 designs, each of which already ships with ten print layouts, a matching welcome screen and overlays.
  3. Run one real event on both. Keep your existing setup as the backup for a single booking. Nobody should switch software cold on a wedding.
  4. Ask in the group. 81,400 operators are in our two Facebook communities, and a good number of them have made exactly this move. Post a photo of your existing layout and someone will tell you how they rebuilt it.
  5. Or let us do it. Send our team your existing templates and we will help you get them across. That is a real offer, not a support-page platitude.

Common Questions

Is LumaBooth cheaper than Snappic?

On annual billing LumaBooth is $17 to $18 per month with two devices. Snappic Starter is $69 per month with one device, less 20% on annual. For two devices the gap widens by $39 to $119 per month depending on Snappic's tier.

Is texting included?

On both. Snappic includes unlimited US and Canada texts under a fair-use policy. LumaBooth includes unlimited US and Canada texts, and international texting is included too. See our pricing page for the current international allowance.

Does Snappic print without a print server?

Yes. Snappic added Direct USB Printing, which sends the job from the iPad to the printer with no device in between, on an M-series or newer A-class iPad. It covers 9 printers across DNP and Citizen, on iPad only. LumaBooth covers 16 across DNP, Citizen, HiTi and SwiftFoto, and also works from a Mac.

Does Snappic work on Windows or Android?

No. Snappic runs on iPad, iPhone and Mac. LumaBooth runs on those plus Windows and Android.

Do I need separate LumaBooth subscriptions for iPad and Android?

No. One subscription covers iPad, iPhone, Mac and Android, and your two included devices can be any mix. Windows is billed separately.

Can I switch from Snappic to LumaBooth?

Yes. Your existing iPad booth hardware works with LumaBooth. Rebuild your templates in the layout designer and our team will help you move over.

The Group Chat Alone Is 81,400 Operators

Software is the part you can compare on a table. This is the part you feel at 11pm when the printer stops.

81,400 Operators in our two official Facebook groups alone, a fraction of the people running LumaBooth
14 yrs Shipping since 2012, with every release published
US American company, with support staff across every time zone
33 Releases between March and August 2026 alone

To be clear about that number: 81,400 is how many operators are in our two official Facebook groups. It is not our user count, which is a good deal larger. It is simply the part you can go and count for yourself, which is why we use it.

Ask a question in the Windows group at 2am and someone in Manila answers before someone in Chicago wakes up. That is not a support policy, it is tens of thousands of operators who have already run the event you are about to run. Our own team is US-based with people spread across the time zones, so a Saturday night in any country is a working day for somebody.

The long history matters for the same reason. We shipped the first version in 2012 and we have not stopped. Every release is written up in plain language at dslrbooth.com/releases, so you can read exactly what changed before you install it, going back years. Pick any photo booth app and read its release history next to ours. That comparison tells you more about the next five years than any feature table.
